INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY 21ST JUNE

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY 21ST JUNE

International Yoga Day - 21st June

With Hannah Tucker

Yoga is an ancient practice that is believed to have originated in India. Yoga involves purposeful movement, breathing techniques, and meditation to promote both physical and mental wellbeing.

The majority of the people that come to yoga do so for flexibility, stress relief, and a meditation time whereby they’re able to self-reflect, practice kindness and improve their self-awareness.

Yoga also has many physical and mental benefits including promoting sleep quality, relieving anxiety, and the ability to improve heart health.

International Yoga Day is a day to celebrate the practice for all that it is, and all that it is worth. It is a day for long-term yogis to reflect on the impact that yoga has had on their lives, and to raise awareness for those who do not practice yoga.

International Yoga Day has been celebrated since 2015 and was purposefully scheduled on the 21st of June by the United Nations because that is the day of Summer Solstice. Summer Solstice is the day where the sun is out for the longest, in comparison to every other day of the year.

So get out in the sun, take some time for yourself to self-reflect, or try something new, and you never know - you might just become a yogi too!
